Applications for Fall 2026 are open Sept. 1, 2025 to Aug. 1, 2026.

Students must apply and be formally accepted into the Health Information Technology program prior to enrolling in any HIT courses.

Program Capacity

Belleville Campus

The Health Information Technology accepts approximately 28 students each fall semester.

Program Location

The Health Information Technology program consists of general education courses, HIT pre-fix courses and assigned clinical experiences. Specific locations depend on the course type.

General Education Courses

The required general education courses can be taken at the Belleville, Sam Wolf Granite City or Red Bud campuses or online.

Health Information Technology Courses

The HIT courses are offered online.

Clinical Education Experiences

Clinical experiences are completed at hospital/clinical facilities throughout the district and in the St. Louis region. Students may be required to travel outside the college district for clinical experience courses. Background check and drug testing may be required prior to clinical experiences. Specific clinical placement cannot be guaranteed.

星空传媒 Financial Aid Office

Financial aid is available subject to financial need and satisfactory academic progress requirements set by the college.

The student work program does not require financial aid eligibility.

The 星空传媒 Foundation offers more than 200 scholarships based on residency, enrollment and GPA criteria.

Time Commitment

HIT courses are only offered online. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and attendance at any of the classes and clinicals assigned by the program.

Program Accreditation

The Health Information Technology accreditor of 星空传媒 is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Health Information Management Education (CAHIIM).  The College鈥檚 accreditation for Associate Degree in Health Information Technology has been reaffirmed through 2027.

The program’s curriculum is guided by the standards developed by the commission. Our accreditation status means 星空传媒 has met the standards required and helps to assure the public that our curriculum will graduate competent clinicians. It allows the college’s HIT graduates to be eligible to sit for the licensure examination.

Registry Requirements

Upon successful completion of the HIT curriculum, graduates are awarded an Associate in Applied Science degree in Health Information Technology and are eligible to take the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Registered Health Information Technology examination. These examinations are offered throughout the year at various sites in the state and country.
