Placement Testing Information

Ðǿմ«Ã½ uses multiple measures to determine placement. All students should contact Academic Advising (advising@swic.edu) to determine placement testing needs.

After talking with an academic advisor and the Ðǿմ«Ã½ Placement Test is still needed, students may walk in for on-campus, same-day testing or schedule an appointment. Remote placement test appointments are available the week before and 3 weeks after the semester begins and are scheduled on a first-come, first-filled basis. Remote placement tests must be scheduled 48 hours in advance. You may schedule your placement test at any of the following campuses:

About the Ðǿմ«Ã½ Placement assessment

Ðǿմ«Ã½ placement testing is a computer-based placement tool that identifies skill levels in math, reading and writing.

Up to 3 hours is available for the Math portion, but most students finish in 60-90 minutes; the English portion is untimed; most students finish within an hour.

Students are allowed five (5) attempts for the math placement assessment and two (2) attempts for the English placement assessment.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. A Ðǿմ«Ã½ student ID number is required for Ðǿմ«Ã½ placement testing.
  2. For help getting your Ðǿմ«Ã½ ID number, submit the . If you need assistance receiving your Student ID Number, contact Enrollment Services at 618-235-2700, ext. 5455.
  3. You must present a valid photo ID when you arrive for the exam.
  4. Test takers are responsible for adhering to all Testing Center Guidelines.
  5. Up to 3 hours is available for the Math portion, but most students finish in 60-90 minutes; the English portion is untimed; most students finish within an hour.
  6. The last full placement test is given 3 hours prior to the closing hours of the Testing Center.  A partial exam is given 1 ½ hours prior to the closing hours of the Testing Center. 
  7. It is recommended that you plan ahead and arrive early to allow yourself sufficient time to take the test and obtain other college services (i.e. academic advising, registration, financial aid, etc.) after completing the placement test.
  8. Test takers who require testing accommodations should first contact the Student Accessibility and Support Services.
